Whalers, 4 others sweep

John Anderson, Kevin Dineen and Ray Ferraro each scored twogoals last night, leading a relentless attack that gave the HartfordWhalers a 9-4 victory over the visiting Quebec Nordiques and a sweepof their opening-round playoff series.

Anderson added four assists and Dineen three. The Whalers,hockey's hottest team with just one loss

in their last 14 games, also got goals each from Dave Tippett, RonFrancis and Ulf Samuelsson.

The Whalers won their first playoff series in team history. CAPS 3, ISLANDERS 1

Washington got goals from defensemen Rod Langway, Scott Stevensand Larry Murphy to win at New York and sweep the series.
