Qld: Former ALP candidate jailed on fraud charges
Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE has rejected suggestions for Townsville MP MIKE REYNOLDS
to stand aside after he was named today in a case of electoral fraud.
Former ALP candidate KAREN LYN EHRMANN has been jailed for three years after pleading
guilty in Cairns District Court to 47 charges of forging and uttering electoral enrolment
forms.
Chief District Court Judge PATSY WOLFE has ordered EHRMANN to serve a minimum of nine
months before parole.
EHRMANN has admitted to tampering with electoral rolls ahead of the 1993 local government
election and 1998 state poll.
The premier says Mr REYNOLDS, who holds the title as his representative in north Queensland,
has made it clear that he was not involved in anything improper.
